This collection contains the papers of Thomas Lynn Smith, Professor of RuralSociology, whose work encompassed sociology, including rural and urban studies, populationand census studies, and individual country and state studies in the United States and LatinAmerica. The collection consists of much of his personal research library, in terms of his ownpapers and research; papers, articles, and correspondence with colleagues; and information aboutfoundations, associations and courses with which he was connected.

T. Lynn Smith, rural sociologist, was born November 11, 1903 in Sanford, Colorado. He received his B.A. in Sociology and History in 1928 from Brigham Young University. He received his M.A. in Sociology in 1929 and his Ph.D. in Sociology with a minor in agricultural economics in 1932, both from the University of Minnesota.
